Walking by Selfridges these days, you can’t help but notice the amazing Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton window displays. I’ve never been a monogram type of person, but their recent collaboration with the Japanese artist is just… mind blown. I love the whimsicality of these new designs that are strangely reminiscent of Minnie Mouse’s style. Kusama’s signature polka dots give a sense of youthfulness to LV’s classic designs – a perfect twist of modernity. I’ve always liked LV’s window displays but they are usually plastered with golden monograms so it was great to see something really different for a change. Polka-dotted tantacles rising from the floor, life size mannequin Kusama, mini army of Kusama dolls… brilliant! I still remember during the royal wedding how they’d place a row those queen figurines that wave in a monotonous movement – I thought that it was hilarious, a rather fun tribute to the occasion. But now with these new Yayoi Kusama displays, I think this have possibly found my new favourite window display.
