I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that I’m not so much of a colourful person at the moment. Although, I definitely need more colours in my life right now considering the depressing weather outside. Notice the 5 consecutive black and white outfit? Ugh. However, I’m total sucker for bold and crazy prints, they’re just so much fun to photograph. Admittedly, this print isn’t that crazy considering it’s still in my safe black and white palette but it’s like a good compromise between my reluctance to wear more colours and my obsession with patterns. It actually makes me think about what a jester or a mime would have worn (…basically comparing myself to a clown now). I like the varying scale of the check print as it creates a really interesting optical effect. To create a sense of symmetry to the pattern of the sweater, I paired it with my black Zara wrap skort and my New Look pointed toe heels. Chose to go low-key on the accessorising to allow the bold print to speak for itself. Finally, I made an effort to top it off with my trusty mustard coloured coat so as I don’t end up looking like a character coming straight out of a black and white cartoon.

Having spent the past couple of weeks buried under a pile of books in the library, and sheltered away from the rest of civilisation, I’ve undoubtedly experienced a gradual shift in my priorities. As much as I would like to spend a whole day picking out what to wear and figuring out which jacket matches with which skirt, I usually have to leave home early in the morning to make sure that I don’t waste any of my revision time. Consequently, I’ve been recycling the basic pieces in my wardrobe and sticking to a rather uniform black and white palette. You just can’t go wrong with this classic combination. Thankfully, monochrome is somewhat of a trend this season so if someone asks, I can still claim that I’m making some sort of effort heh…

I’ve been really liking this Zara sweater because of the 3D effect of the embroidery and the cutout details. It’s a fun and subtle twist to the classic (yet, boring) white sweatshirt. To compliment the sort of baroque feel of the sweater, I paired it with this leather skirt from H&M, which also has embossed floral embellishment on the sides. For my everyday looks, I usually keep it simple so I went low-key on the accessorizing by simply completing the outfit with my trusty grey beanie from ASOS, comfy studded Nighthawk boots from Office and with my fringe bag from Zara (which surprisingly has plenty of space, enough to store a whole A5 notebook!) Et voilà, I’m set for another productive day.

Zara has been hitting all the right marks recently. Ever since I’ve become obsessed with their new minimalistic SS ’13 collection, fighting the urge to shop for new clothes has been somewhat a challenge. As you can see from my last post, I’ve made a conscious effort to wear more white these days. I usually gravitate towards darker colours out of habit so it’s rather refreshing to add lighter tones into my wardrobe. With that being said, I think that I would probably still shy away from crazy bright neon colours for now.

One of my favourite pieces has to be this wrap skort. I like how it looks like a skirt but is actually a pair of shorts, combining practicality and design. It’s also available in white and I must confess, I’m really tempted to get the other colour right now. Another favourite is this perspex clutch, which reminds me of the Charlotte Olympia Pandora Perspex Clutch. It comes with a striped black and white pocket inside but I but I decided to remove it and expose the content of my bag instead, partly because it felt a bit matchy-matchy with my out in but also because I kind of like the simplicity of a clear glass-like clutch.

Have you ever had one of those days when you wake up and tell yourself that it is going to be a good day, that the sun’s going to be out and that you won’t have to carry around an umbrella, only to walk outside and be showered in snow? Wait what? Snow? At this time of the year? Welcome to my life in London.

It’s supposed to be spring but the weather’s still erratic. I’m not sure if it’s right to blame global warming and our society’s destructive behaviour towards the eco system but I miss those days when spring was actually warm. Maybe it’s time to move back to a tropical country where it’s actually sunny all year round! But it’s a rather costly decision so I’ll just go put on some spring time clothes and pretend that it’s warm for now (and maybe catch a cold or two while I’m there).

I found this top while browsing the new H&M flagship store on Oxford circus. I rarely shop at H&M noways but I was surprised at the wide range of clothes that they offered in this newly renovated store. I love the lace-y flower pattern and the cutout at the back. It’s so light and airy, perfect for the warmer months. To offset the girly vibe of the lace top, I paired it with a tough leather skirt, also from H&M. I particularly like the sort of baroque detailing on the sides of this skirt. Completed the look with my spike litas to give an edge to the outfit et voilà. This would be the perfect music festival outfit for me, and what I mean by that is something along the line of Coachella, set in the warm desert. Music festivals in the UK are a different story, involving wellies and raincoat but let’s not get into that for now.

Dungarees, also known as ‘overalls’, have such a utilitarian stigma attached to them. Granted, they’ve got plenty of pockets to store whatever you want to hide but you don’t have to be a construction worker or a farmer to rock them. I picked out this pair of “moon rock” grey denim dungarees from ASOS. I love the loose-fitting that makes them so comfortable to wear. They’re very much like a cross between a jumpsuit and your traditional pair of jeans but with much more interesting detailing. Pair them up with a nice pair of sandals, a button-up shirt and a statement necklace to smarten up the look. I completed the outfit with this retro-looking box bag, also from ASOS, with the same colour palette to give it a uniform-like vibe, as an homage to the times I used to rock this kind of garment in primary school. I don’t buy a lot of T-shirts but when I do, I make sure that it’s got a giant cat’s face with enormous blue eyes printed in the front. Well, no, I must admit that I do buy a lot of t-shirts but this one is definitely one of the crazier ones that I have. I’m not exactly a ‘cat person’ but I can’t help but LOVE this t-shirt. The bright blue eyes are so alluring and creepy at the same time. I’ve been going for more active, 90s-inspired looks these days so I paired it with this oversized vintage Levi’s denim jacket and this faux-leather baseball cap from H&M. I completed the look with my beloved crochet shorts (a now recurring item on this blog) and my ALDO Hardney Wedges to add a girly twist to the look and balance out the tomboy vibe.

Excuse the boring background – I’ve been feeling lazy about carrying my DSLR around on top of my stacks of revision books so that’s why you might have to familiarise yourself with this one for a while. On the bright side, it will probably be easier for me to push for more updates this way since I can just take a couple of shots before I leave the house everyday and voilà! Technicalities aside, hope everyone’s having a good week.

Hello everyone! I have to once again apologize for my sudden disappearance. Juggling between school work, my part-time job and work scheme applications, I barely have any time left to produce any quality content for the blog. By the time that I’m done with my day, it’s either pitch black outside or no one would be around to help me take my pictures, which is why my plans of updating the blog usually end up out the window… But enough with the excuses. Here’s a quick update – just to prove to you all that I’m still alive!

The weather’s been lovely recently so I decided to leave the boots at home and opt for these ankle strap heels that I got from New Look. Ever since I saw the Alexander Wang Lilya Pumps and the Saint Laurent Paris Escarpin Pump with Ankle Cuff, I’ve become obsessed with pointed toe cap heels and ankle straps but obviously, their price tags aren’t quite ‘student friendly. So when I stumbled across these pair of New Look shoes on ASOS for a mere £19.99 – it was a no brainer, they just HAD to belong to my closet. I also decided that it was time to invest in a lighter jacket and this varsity / baseball one just seemed perfect. Truth be told I do feel like being a cast of an American high school when walking around with it but I just really like the laid back feel that it gives. I got it from eBay and although the seller (link) claims that arms are made out of real leather, I’m rather skeptical about it. Paired it with neutral colours to really make the red stand out. This is how I looked like going to work – nothing too flashy. It’s not an office job so I didn’t have to suit up or anything but I didn’t want to look like a clown when going to work either… Although I probably could.

I’ve been impatiently waiting for the Lunar New Year to arrive. Just thinking about all the festivities, especially the food-indulging part, already makes me happy. Supposedly, red is the colour of good luck. Thus, I would probably end up by covering myself with all the red-coloured pieces of clothing that I could find in my closet for New Year’s day. But before that happens, I will resort to my old black from head-to-toe routine for a couple more days. Dressing all in black could be dull and boring at times but it doesn’t necessarily have to. I usually try to throw different patterns and textures into the mix to ‘spice up the outfit’. Cringe – I can’t believe I have just used that term, but for lack of other fitting cliché terms… pardon my limited grasp of the poetic English language :(

This velvet Zara blazer has rarely left my shoulder for the past week. It’s so soft and shiny and goes with anything in my closet. Well, it’s black after all. BUT it’s the material that makes it so special. I think I have a new found love for velvet. I got the aztec print shirt from Urban Outfitters during the sales for a whooping 10 pounds. I love the pattern. It’s slightly unusual but it’s exactly the grayscale palette makes it really wearable. As for the crochet shorts, they’ve pretty much became a staple in my closet by now. There’s something very granny-like about them that I just somehow love. I bought them for the summer but throw in a pair of stockings and you’re set for the cold weather as well!
